I just got fitted for a new shaft on my old Nike Sumo driver. I like the driver, but I'm tired of the sound (a very loud CLANK) and feel like I'm cheating myself by not taking advantage of the newer technology on the market.

What suggestions do you all have for a new driver for a high handicapper? I'm very inconsistent in my drives.

To the OP: I would suggest looking into a PING K15. I dont play one myself, but I know a couple guys who have it. Not necessarily because they need it, but more because they're lazy.

Not saying everyone who uses it is lazy, just that its made to be easy and forgiving. The K15 is PING's extra forgiving, super game improvement, beginner line. I'm lucky to have a great outfitter in Columbus, Ohio about 30 mins away. A new shaft on my old driver (the Sumo) because I hit it relatively well. When I'm off I'm way off, but those moments are becoming more and more rare. The guy doing the fitting clocked my swing speed at 110.

Are you working on mechanics after advice from a lesson, or are you just hoping things get better? If you are struggling to cure yourself, a $50 lesson is a lot cheaper than buying a new driver. I can definately vouch for that sounds like you are hitting an empty coke can. But to be honest going on WUtiger said if you can hit that driver fine and it is your swing don't make the mistake of thinking a new driver will help. Spend the 50$ and get a lesson would be my advice.

A bad swing will result in a bad shot no matter what club you have in your hand. At that swing speed, I'd find an Adams 9064 LS (low spin) in a 9.5 or 10.5. They have an ALDILA Rip Stock Shaft in Alpha and Gamma Versions - google for the difference - and at $149 or less, you've got a driver for that swingwpeed of yours - 10.5 of loft will give you less sidespin but more backspin - it all depends on your swing.
